One of the most readily recognised cars of the 1960s, thanks in part to countless appearances in films and on television, Jaguar's seminal Mark 2 saloon set the standard for the class throughout its entire production life and today remains highly prized by enthusiasts. Boasting Dunlop disc brakes all round and a choice of 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8-litre XK engines, the Jaguar Mark 2 provided the discerning enthusiast driver with one of the finest sports saloons available in the 1960s. In its ultimate, 3.8-litre, overdrive-equipped form, the Mark 2 could reach 125mph with 60mph coming up in 8.5 seconds, impressive figures for a saloon of its size even by today's standards. Although there was a slight performance penalty with the optional Borg-Warner automatic transmission installed, the '3.8' in this form was an increasingly popular choice, particularly in the North American market.
Representing the Jaguar Mark 2 in its ultimate, 3.8-litre, overdrive-equipped configuration, this example has had four previous owners; otherwise its history is unknown apart from what may be deduced from some D W Field restoration bills from 1990. Our vendor has owned the Mark 2 since August 2008, and copies of all servicing and MoT invoices since then (totalling £51,000) are on file together with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate dated 2015. The total cost of the 2008 restoration by Lane's Cars, including chrome wire wheels, was £37,000. Electric power steering, a Thatcham alarm, and electronic ignition are the other upgrades notified. Offered with car are various items including a Haynes manual; Nigel Thorley's restoration guide; spare parts catalogue; jack and spare wheel; tools (most items); and side mirrors for window fitting. Our vendor describes the car as in good condition throughout, with excellent interior and chrome, while a minor oil leak from the engine is the only fault notified. The car is MoT'd to 29th July 2025 and comes with V5C Registration Certificate. '1047 PJ' has been shown at Windsor Castle on consecutive years, including HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 when it was one of 60 Jaguars attending.
