Angels' Reid Detmers: Fans 11 in minor-league start

Detmers tossed six innings for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 11 batters while notching the win.

Detmers was optioned to Triple-A on June 1 after a series of poor starts with the Angels. His first minor-league outing since 2022 didn't go well, as he gave up seven runs over five frames despite striking out eight batters. The southpaw has improved since, and over his past two outings with Salt Lake he's struck out 21 hitters across 12 frames, though he's also surrendered eight earned runs over that stretch. Overall, Detmers has logged a 5.70 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB across 30 frames through five starts in the minors. Angels pitching coach Barry Enright said last week that Detmers was "trending in the right direction" in terms of improvement when addressing how the club will fill the rotation spot of Patrick Sandoval, who has since been ruled out for the season after undergoing an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his pitching elbow, but it's unclear what the team's plans are for Detmers moving forward. Los Angeles' rotation has had a lot of moving parts of late -- in addition to Sandoval's injury, Zach Plesac was demoted to Triple-A on Saturday, Jose Soriano (abdomen) is slated to return from the injured list Tuesday, and Davis Daniel was promoted from the minors to make his first start of the campaign last Thursday. In addition, Roansy Contreras was moved from the bullpen to make a spot start last Wednesday and is slated to get another turn in the rotation this coming Thursday versus Oakland.

Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Slated for more time at third base

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Taylor will have more of a "runway" to play third base, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Third base has been a weakness for the Dodgers since Max Muncy landed on the injured list with an oblique injury May 17. The team made a trade in mid-June for Cavan Biggio, but he's struggled to a .188 batting average and 33.3 percent strikeout rate in 12 games with Los Angeles. Taylor had a disastrous start to the campaign -- he was hitting .095 with a 39.2 percent punchout rate over 36 contests through June 6 -- but has turned things around of late, slashing .385/.448/.731 with four extra-base hits (including two homers), four RBI, seven runs and two thefts over his past 11 games. He started at third base Sunday against San Francisco and collected a home run, a double and two RBI, and Roberts has indicated that Taylor will start at the hot corner again in the team's next game (Tuesday versus Arizona), per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. If Taylor keeps his momentum going, he could keep the primary third-base job until Muncy returns to action, which likely won't happen until after the All-Star break. Biggio and Enrique Hernandez are the other options to log time at the hot corner for the time being.

Orioles' Corbin Burnes: Reinstated from paternity leave

Burnes was away from the club for the final three games of its weekend series against the Rangers while tending to more important family matters. He's tentatively slated to make his next start Wednesday in Seattle, though that hasn't yet been confirmed.

Orioles' Matt Krook: Sent back to Norfolk

The Orioles optioned Krook to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

He'll head back to Triple-A to reopen a spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Corbin Burnes (personal), who was reinstated from the paternity list. During his three-day stay with the Orioles, Krook made his lone relief appearance in Sunday's 11-2 loss to the Rangers, giving up three runs (two earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out two over one inning.

Red Sox's Luis Perales: Tommy John surgery completed

Perales (elbow) underwent a full UCL reconstruction surgery last week, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

As anticipated, Perales required a traditional Tommy John surgery to repair the damage ligament in his right elbow rather than an internal brace procedure. As a result, Perales is unlikely to be ready to pitch late in the 2025 season, whereas an internal brace procedure would have resulted in a shorter timeline that could have put him in line to pitch at some point after the All-Star break in 2025. The 21-year-old -- who is regarded as one of the Red Sox's top pitching prospects -- should be back to full health in advance of spring training in 2026.

Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Slated for bulk relief

Wilson will be used as a bulk reliever in Monday's game versus the Rockies, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The Brewers often use an opener ahead of Wilson, and Monday will be no different with reliever Rob Zastryzny slated to take the ball first. Wilson tossed six shutout frames in bulk relief his last time out Tuesday, picking up a win against the Rangers.
